Just Have To Listen

Posted in Poetry

“You just have to listen.”

I know you always tell me to speak my mind in anyway,
Because that’s how you would understand me.
I’m not that person, hey,
Because I don’t have always something to say see.

You always talk as if there’s no tomorrow,
But I get sick of it since you just go on and on.
You don’t always see what goes on around you, the sorrow.
I try to ignore what you say and get it all gone.

You always tell me that I listen to too much music,
But listen to yourself, you told me to “Speak my mind.”
Okay, sure that was basic,
But I express myself through music, I’m that kind.

You listened to a song that has my soul,
And you look at the lyrics as well.
You ask me why you have to listen to some song that’s less than whole,
I told you that I spoke my mind, which was all I had to tell.

You listened and read the song,
And I waited for you to talk.
There was a silence, it was that long,
And you began to take a walk.

I stopped you to find out what’s wrong,
And you were starting to tear up.
You told me that song was real strong,
You were looking like a sad pup.

You hugged me and cried on my shoulder,
Whispering sorry for not listening.
I knew you weren’t any colder,
And I saw your face that was glistening.

You wiped your tears away and began to laugh,
Saying how much you didn’t really know me.
You only saw the happy me, the first half,
Then you saw the other half, the half I showed thee.

All you had to do was listen to my way,
Because that’s all I have to say.
